Frightening. And who knows where we go next? In our family, we have a trans nephew, 19. He's in Washington State, where he is more protected. But what happens when his career track brings him to, say, Texas?
Karen, you might also look here: https://susanalbert.com/loving-eleanor/ Yes, Hick was a remarkable woman, exactly what Eleanor needed, when she needed her. (After that, not so much, although they remained friends.)
Well, thank you! I have a little series of books on hidden women. That one was the second. Not trying to sell books here, just pointing out that our interests in "hiding" are congruent.
Right up my alley, for sure! I appreciate being theme connected. And I want to read any book about women in hiding, so please don’t shy away from recommending your books.
What a story Chief! I can't imagine the toll it took to spend so many years constantly engaging your military bearing. And having to share devastating news to heartbroken families. You've conjured so much courage in so many ways I'd say you have a PhD in courage .Thanks for such a thoughtful post.
Karen, have you read Conundrum? Another courageous coming-out-of-hiding memoir, defiantly brave in its time (1974!)
I haven't, Susan. Thanks for the recommendation! I just purchased it.
Oh, good! It's not just trans, it's transformative (or I found it so).
I’m very interested in being a better ally and learning more about their experiences and how to support.
Such a difficult time, harder in some places than others.
Like those who are serving. Unbelievable we are where we are.

Thanks Sis, And a courageous woman (ER) for sure! Which book?
Wonderful and interesting post! Yes, learning to face fear, however it shows up in our different lives, is the work. XO
Thank you and yes, no one is immune. XO
Received in email: What a beautiful article, Karen, so sad about Z-Man and crew. :(
